It's common sense. If you have missing spaces in your cover and your fish jumps out... happens all the time.. If your fish is mature enough to bust through a glass lid, or whatever, weigh it down or cover. I've had mistakes, I'm sure a lot of us have, think it through bud. Happens to the best of us.

Top it up if you love em cuz Murphy's Law is a mfk, however, I have noticed that they jump out especially when they are downsized from a bigger tank to a smaller one. Other reasons include being jittery and startled or jumping at the water drops that form under the glass tops and/or when they learn that bagging the glass and tops will get them food and/or attention.
I lost my breeder pair female because she jumped while I was in class, when I got hom my dog lead me to her with a sad look on her face
