Dovii / Managuense hybrid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Aye, it tis best not to SUPPORT hybrids. There are enough of them in the hobby right now as it is, so we need to keep the ones that aren't as pure as possible. Its the responsibility to not allow this to happen.

 I would already have 1 swimming in the tank if i where west coast and would try to cross that to a reddevil as well.

That is an opinion. I think for myself, and would buy the fish. Disliking hybrids is like a political stance, to each his own.....

Taking how variable hybrids can be into account I question whether that fish really has dovii in it. I couldn't help but think it had more of a loisellei shape with wierd loiselli x mana pattern with a mana face.

We can't tell. Because the genetics are already garbage. This thread should be moved to the other 'garbage' thread.:)

I don't see why some folks are so quick to label crossed fish "garbage". It happens. We're keeping fish in unnatural conditions and unnatural breedings are very likely to occur. In this case someone is advertising a hybrid fish as such and that's fine by me. It's unfortunate that this isn't always the case and somewhere down the line the fish's owner may not be as honest. I share the "keep your hybrids to yourself" sentiment but I certainly can't hate on a fish because it's a hybrid.
No one seems to jump down the platy, swordtail or betta lovers throat for keeping/breeding/distributing hybrids. Or the RD/Midas or "managuense" folks for that matter. :grinno:

That is a good point straitjacketstar:iagree: i fully agree with u every hybrid i have sold or traded i have always made the buyer aware of the fishes genetic make up.

Why is it hybrids are so sought after?

Surely the fauna of purebred cichlids available to the hobbyist is enough. Someones trying to make money off something different. It's not necessary.

I'd agree with the loiselli comment. This is just it, you can't trust what you are getting when you buy hybrids. Then the same guy who's trying to make a dollar will sell them as whatever the next purchaser wants them to be, then bred back into purelines and presto, more hybrids. It's putting our hobby at risk.

I am suprised by the number of people that have replied to this thread as "gotta ge me that" types. :( Really depressing!! :(
