First of all...
Hi guys :), I'm a noob here as well as to monster fishes. Honestly, the most aggressive fish I've owned are angels (XD) and never really owned anything larger than that though I have an experience with Malawi cichlids and pacus through some friends in the past. I'm really know nothing about these beasts.
Now, I'm currently looking for a show fish in my 6'x3'x30" (lxwxh) tank. No need for tankmates as I want all the attention on the show fish only. I've narrowed down some options and came up with these two.Can someone tell me the difference between Managuensis and Dovii in terms of care, temperament, personality/attitude, etc.??

How much time you got buddy! That size tank realistically id go with the jag. Or even a pair.
Thanks for the fast reply !!
I'll dedicate most of my time with the fish only as I'm looking for something long term. :)
Though I won't get them now, maybe in another 4 months or so because our house is being renovated.
Tank size aside, how jags differ from dovii in temperament and ease of care ? :)

The jags are lower in aggression and just float around when bigger, but there are a few that interacts so depends on individuals too.

higher chance of lively attitude as they mature; Doviis.

You should get a handful of both. Then thin out as you narrow down to your favorite one

I always wonder how "lively attitude" the Doviis have.. Something that will jump out of the tank to bite you?? lol
As much as I love to get a handful of both, I need to get Doviis by importing them. We have Jags locally because someone introduced them on our native waters a few years ago..
As of ease of care, are they pretty much similar? Will both species attack when doing tank maintenace?

As always;Depending on individuals.
But the greatest chance of getting bit is sticking your hand into their tank when they have eggs.

Dovii way more aggressive and killer.

Imo other than providing enough space for them both species are pretty easy to keep, and both have a tendency to be rather shy when small. For me the dovii is the ultimate cichlid, but has the potential to outgrow even a 6x3x30 down the road. Picture a 24" fish in a 6' long tank, it could be 1/3 the total length of the tank. This is not to discourage you from getting one, it would take years for the fish to get anywhere near that size.

I understand. I've seen videos of Dovii being the beast that he is ☺

I know :) I'm leaning on Managuensis as of now. It would be cruel to cramp a large fish in a small tank. Maybe when I'm more ready and have a large enough space then I'll get Doviis. Thank you ☺

As suggested by the animal guy the animal guy if you are getting small fish I would get a group. Jags are very hard to sex when small, and it will help them feel at ease. I would want a pair in that tank, but would definitely understand if you did not. CA breeding drama can be stressful for the fish and the owner.
