i was talking to a well known cichlid specialist, and breeder and he said doviis can be bred and placed in 75 or 90 gallon tanks for life if they have plenty of hiding spots..It sounds weird but i actually belive this guy.Hes been doing this for years, and i think he knows what hes talking about.I buying a large male off of him and im trying it for the 150 gallon tank i have.I f not the 150 ill see if it works in the 75 first.

Yes, this is possibly true but there is no way you will be able to create "enough hiding spots" for an adult pair of dovi.

filtration and water changes is key, if he is a breeder he is probably doing alot of water changes.

how many water changes should u do a week period:headbang2 ...i do mine once a week.

o yea they are a 25 -50% change when i do them.I amconstantly doing one on my rd tank.

A pair of dovii in a 75 gallon would not work for life.... Its not even big enough for a single male. Dovii can become HUGE, almost half the length of the tank, and larger than the width. With the female you have in there, I'd call it fully stocked.

Of course you could put a Dovii in a 75-90 for life. Just take care of it.

Only problem is it wouldn't be able to move too much as an adult :(

They are incredibly fast and would probably need the 6' tank to swim back and forth.

You should put it in the 150. ;)

your getting another dovii?

a 75 gal..or a 90 gal..is absolutely not sufficient for adult dovii's.

males, if well taken care of can reach up to 27 inches, they are monsters

a pair needs at least a 200-250 gallon tank to themselves..i would seriously hold off on getting another until you have the sufficient tank space for one

I totally agree. there is no way a male dovii can grow to full length and live a full, healthy life in a 75 or 90 gallon tank. you could keep a male dovii in a 75 or 90 for life, but his life would be shortened and he would not be able to grow properly which means he would be much less than healthy the older he gets.
