dovii pair in 75

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So many people have told you whats wrong with a dovii pair in a 75g, so many times. And I DID put my 2c in, in the first page. a dovii pair WILL NOT WORK IN A 75, for the millionth time. You need to open up your ears.

And I said that the thread should be closed because I dont want a fight to start. Your initial question has been answered, you just dont take heed. There is nothing more to be said about a dovii pair in a 75 other than it would be a cruel thing to do.

EDIT: hes not posting fake facts, his facts all seem to be true, as well as what he said you would do.

The main reason it won't work is because a male dovii can easily grow larger than 20 inches, which means he won't have enough room. When you include a female, the poor thing will be relentlessly harassed.
And if you were to add hiding places for her, you reduce the amount of total area in the tank, considering a hiding spot for a 10+ inch fish, has to be quite large.
Is this what you were looking for?

I think this is sound advice. Not 'fake facts'.

What type of shovelnose, what else will be in the tank? Details, details...

Edit: But in answer to your question, no.

You really need to be careful when buying fish that get really big.

I bought a pacu at 14" long when i was young and dumb. My friend and i bought him as more or less of a joke and put him in a 55 gallon tank, beause he was just a fish so who cares.

To make a long story short, myself and my whole family grew to love the Pacu. He grew so large that he couldn't turn around in the 55 gallon without getting stuck.

I went out and bought a 125 gallon tank. We put him in there at 17" long and he was happy as could be that he could sit sideways in the tank. Soon enough he was 25" long and could turn around but had to turn sideways to do so.

I felt horrible for this fish that he lived in a tank in which he couldn't even turn around comfortably in. I set out on a quest to find him a better home, my dad wouldn't let me. My dad had grown too attached to a fish. Seriously. I had trouble getting rid of him and my entire family really misses him. He's only been gone for a few weeks now.

My first post on these forums was asking if anyone had accomodations for him. A member named Glenn, fortunately, was 20 minutes away and came and picked him up. He is going into a 300+ gallon tank that he needs.

I won't say that it is an incredibly horrible thing to see a fish that is way too big for its tank. I'm not an animal activist, I own a shotgun, I have gone spearfishing and had a great time stabbing pretty fish in the eye. I love deep sea fishing and hitting a Bluefish in the face with a baseball bat to stun it. I think that is funny. But watching a Pacu, who has become a family pet have difficulty turning around... that sort of sucked.

So thats my sob story. My Pacu got lucky. Most would end up dumped into a reservoir where they would freeze, or be euthanized, or become ill and die from the terrible water conditions that they make for themselves.

what does rvb reference mean?

Sorry, i dropped myself down a flight of stairs as an infant...

EDIT: Let's see if this is enough convincing for you:

I just recieved an email from Glenn, the guy who I gave the Pacu to.

The Pacu was in a 150g tank until the 300+ was set up.

Glenn came home one night, flicked the lights on in the room, which spooked the Pacu. The pacu freaked and rammed the other end of the tank.

It broke the 150g tank. I am not kidding. He explained this in an email, saying that the water poured all over the room and he had to rush to fill his other 90g tank to keep his fish in. He has a 180g now that he is repairing so he can get the fish into it.

THE PACU BROKE THE GLASS IN THE 150GALLON TANK.

I have no idea how to go about apologizing to Glenn.

your getting another dovii?

a 75 gal..or a 90 gal..is absolutely not sufficient for adult dovii's.

males, if well taken care of can reach up to 27 inches, they are monsters

a pair needs at least a 200-250 gallon tank to themselves..i would seriously hold off on getting another until you have the sufficient tank space for one

Agreed.
