dovii size

okay I know doviis are probably the biggest baddest central american out there but can we put to rest the whole doviis grow 28+ inches thing cause I just dont think it happens in aquariums and that may be due to tank size or water quality but even the monsters out there maybe are around 22 inches kept in some of the best conditions their owners can offer in monster tanks just wondering if anybody agrees that a good max for doviis would be around 22-24 in ideal conditions not 30 like most sites say
 
I should have said with mels being the execption althougjh I dont see that fiah as 28 inches my pair is actually from that doviis last spawn. mel is easily one of the best cichlid keepers in the world and his doviis a monster and I recall a thread from modest man about a year ago that puts that fish in the 18-20 inch range I cant wait for mine to grow
 
I'll say Mel estimated his Umbee in a video at 2', he said he measured it after it died and it was 24". He estimated the Dovii at 26" or so last video. I'm sure he could be off some but I doubt his Dovii is 20". I agree though that the 30" Dovii is a rarity in aquariums if there are any out there. I do think they should get in the range of 24" if in a proper tank with good water quality. Not a 300 gallon 24" wide though. Most IMO are 17/19" range because of the size of the tank and water conditions. From what I recall not many have a large footprint tank for these monsters to grow. Also Mel's tank maintenance on that tank is unreal.

Yeah, I feel you. I just setup a 300 and I still cant house a dovii.......lol
 
mels dovii is probably one of the biggest anywhere and I agree that a dovii needs a monster tank in the 400+ gallons with at least 30 in front to back its just fristrating when people ask questions on here about dovii size and people go straight to saying well ots a 30 inch fish and you just dont see those and mels is one of thousands and may be the biggest out there, doviis are amazing fish and an adult male deserves a monster tank but your not gonna see 28+ inch dovii, someday I hope to go see mels big pair and the rest of his amazing collection
