Dovii still shy at 13 inches....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sounds like a good setup. That is around the size mine started to become more outgoing. It was gradual though. One thing I like to do with any shy fish is feed less more often and hang around while they eat. Maybe put a chair near the tank and sit down so you are not towering over the fish. I hate my stacked tanks because the fish in the bottom tanks are always so skittish.

As I have stated numerous times before, just because a fish has a fearsome reputation and is know for being psychotic does not always mean they turn out that way. Like people, each animal is an individual and can vary immensely
I agree 100% and tell people the same thing

That's a huge tank for a 13" fish. He probably just feels insecure. He should come around as he gets bigger. Until then add some cover he can cruise along in the length of the tank. I like to keep one side darker than the other and add fake vines along the top for cover.

Dovii are extremely aggressive but most of
the time people put them in way too small of tank which leads to them just going nuts 24/7. My last dovii was psychotic at 17" but acts a lot more laid back now that he's in a huge tank at the business I donated him to.
