dovii tank size

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
10 people have read this and no replies? This place is really going down hill. Idiotic threads get dozens of replies, people get bashed about tank size constantly BUT when people ask serious questions, thy get ignored. A lot of people are here just to brag about their F1 fish or to down talk others.

Yes, from what i have read and seen, that size tank would be perfect.

180 is fine. may want like a 300 g for a pair. Long term fish that gets huge.

how about you just start using the search feature as this question has been asked over and over and over and over again.

funny that, seach gave me nothing rellavent to the question.
cheers all, im hoping to restart my 180g up again.
though, another question, (saves making multiple threads) would it be possible to house a jardini or other not so big cichlids, like jags, trimacs etc, with a single dovii, or is it a matter of the doviis temprement?

cheers

my 2 cents. 180 is the minimum tank size i would put a single adult dovii in. I think bigger would obviously be better. for the most part the two dovii i have owned wouldnt tolerate any tank mates. but i believe that it really has to do with the individual personality of the fish, but for the most part dovii wont play nice.

If MFK is going so far downhill, no one is forcing you to come here. Have you considered that maybe the first ten people who looked at the thread never kept a Dovii and didn't know? Jeez, sometimes you have to be patient until the experts come along.

To answer D Hedington's question, I had a 15-16" super-psycho male Dovii in a 7' x 2' x 2.5' (265g) tank, and IMHO, the tank was quickly getting too small. I felt so strongly (agged on by my wife) about it that I sold him....and he was my favorite fish ever. I think that a full grown male Dovii deserves a minimum of an 8' x 3' footprint to do him justice...and bigger is always better.

would a 180G do a single fish?

An adult dovii reaches about 20" long, so if you don't worry about the spine being intact you can fit one in a 10 gallon.

I'm sure if you were really set on it you could get on in a 2 gallon, but it might have to be pureed.

The question should not be what is the smallest tank, it should be what is an adequate tank for a healthy adult fish. I'd say around 600 gallons.

3 million gallons for one 6 million for 2
