So what do you all think. I am debating on either a 96x36x24 and a 96x36x30. I could get a 24" height for a lot cheaper but I'm just not sure of the height for a 20-25" fish. Not all Dovii get 30" but that is something to keep in mind.

personally I like the look of 30" tall tanks over 24" ones. the extra height is really nice looking.

having said that, either of those tank are plenty of room for a big adult sized Dovii.

in fact, its probably overkill unless you are planning on putting few more monsters in with it. you are looking at a 450g tank there.

it will look awesome, but going that big is not really necessary.

That's what I was unsure of......the height of 24" on such a big tank looking odd. Although I do not think it is overkill. I think you can get buy with a 180 but I think ideal for a dovii would be a 350-450. If I can save $1000 on a 24" it might be the way I go. Like I said just not sure of that height/look for a Dovii.

It depends on your budget....sure the 30" tall will look better, but the 24" will not look odd at all (I've seen several of those on MFK, great looking setups) and a 36" tall stand will help

Obviously I would rather spend less but I want the best for long term. Not only the looks.....just not sure a 24" height will be a good size for a mature 8 yr. old Dovii.

what adult size are you expecting for this fish?

if its 18" or above (which i believe is typical for a female), the 30" tall tank is going to be a lot better for manuverability.

in a 24" tall tank with some substrate, when that fish eats off the bottom with its tail up and head down, the tip of the tail is going to be nearly touching the surface of the water.

this is what used to happen with my old giant gourami in a 24" tall 90g.

I would spend the extra money and get the 30" tall tank.

$1000 may seem like a lot, but when you consider that you will probably have this tank for 20+ years, its really not much at all.

look at it this way: its like an extra $50 a year over the lifespan of the tank. its nothing.

as i sit here and look at my 27" right next to my 30" tall i got to say i like the look of the 30 better... having said that, and being only 5'7 its almost impossible to reach the bottom of the tank and i use one of those crippled person picker upper arms to reach in.
