Dovii Tank Size

12 Volt Man that's what I was thinking with the 24" height. I know they like to point up and look at the surface and like you said the eating and digging and what not. My dovii is a male so he should more then likely get in the 24"+ range. I was just looking and saw what I thought was a good price on a 24" height and started questioning it. I think the 30" will be the better option like I had originally planed. I just a big increas in price for a 6" taller tank.

Actually it will be acrylic. I think the big jump in price comes from using 2 sheets of acrylic to get the 30" instead of one sheet for the 24". I am pretty sure that standard sizes dictate that.

I think you may be expecting too much from your Dovii.

Ask on this site and i highly doubt very few peaple own Doviis at the 24" or higher mark.

And whoever says a 8x3 is overdoing it for a 2 foot dovii has never seen a 2 foot dovii, they dont just go hey im big now ill slow down and not move as much.

For a Dovii to truly be comfortable it needs a 8x3x3 or better to itslef or with its current female (They just randomly kill them)

To make it simple think of the fiesty 6" you once had would you place him in a tank one quarter the size that you want for a 2 footer? a 24"x9"x6"

A big boy wont act like a 6"er all the time but he will do it.

I think an 8x4x3 is a much more reasonable tank for a "large" adult.

If i'm not mistaken, Dovii's are not open water predators, like the umbees for example. Umbees, while not as big as dovii's, actually require a bigger tank than the bigger Dovii.

As long as the fish can comfortably move around, i don't see any harm in the 24".

Another big thing to consider, is whether it will be a bare bottom tank, or a sanded/gravel tank. For instance, a 24" bare bottom tank, will typically be more than enough for any male Dovii, while a sanded/gravelly bottom tank, i'd prefer the 30".

You say your Dovii is 8 years old, but not 24"? Honestly, it may grow a tiny bit larger length wise, maybe ½"-1", and put on some more width, but at 8 year olds, i simply wouldn't bet on the genetics of the fish to be of the 24"+ type, if it hasn't already gotten to atleast 22-24" after 8 years.

Just my 2 cents though.

Good luck with whatever you choose. And ps. what an incredibly good looking Dovii you have :headbang2

Obviously I would rather spend less but I want the best for long term. Not only the looks.....just not sure a 24" height will be a good size for a mature 8 yr. old Dovii.
Ah, i guess i misunderstood here.

Sorry.

My three tanks are 30" H and I love the extra height, even when I have to get the step stool out, and in spite of the additional price.

Another little plus is the added water volume, helps keep the bio-load down.

I'd say go for the exta height. :headbang2

get the 30 over 24 the taller looks better..
