Ok so I am very, well, this close to getting a Dovii, I am going to trade out my Vieja, my Amarillo, My Bartoni and Blue Lab for Kevin's Male Dovii, Thoughts?

His Tank will be a 150 gallon 6' tank, my thoughts are:

1) Is that a big nuff tank for him?
2) Am I crazy?? I have a Huge 220 Community, but I would never risk that delicate balance with a male Dovii....

Seriously, What am I thinking??

I need some thoughts..........

if you want it, get it:) how bigs his male?
people say 180 is the minimum size tank for a dovii.....he'd have a good life with you with extra w/c etc

I'm not familar with that particular dovii.. how big is it? Could you switch the 220g fish to the 150g? If that 220g is 24" wide then it could hold him for life.. the 150g would need an upgrade later if he's under 18"

I wouldn't mix him with other cichlids in a 220g.

Well i have had a dovii pair from rapps in a 125 for almost 2 yrs started as juvies,at the size your getting yours( 6-8) you still have2-3 yrs before you even have to worry.I have also read many debates that most top out at 18 while fewer break the the 20 inch mark. I would go for it ,dovii are the best. I think they are worth it once they come out of there shell.Keep dithers in there to keep him moving around.

If he shows well, I could swap out the 220 and the 150 fish, It's easy to watch it, yes the 220 is the 24" deep.

He is just a lil guy now, 8", i figure he has about a year to show?

The 220's Dimensions are 6' Long x 24" Deep x 31" Tall

The 150's Dimensions are 6" long x 18" Deep x 28" Tall

Here he is:

Im gonna keep him with 9x-SD's, 5x-Giant Danios (Feeders), and a Big Thick 8" Raphael Cat.....

Sound like a plan??

That will work fine for awhile,he will let you now when its time to move the others.150 is a good size tank, with the height gives them alot of swimming and dodging room.Do you plan on getting him a girlfriend in the future?

He's a nice fish. His tank mates might be goners though. Have to watch it when you put him in with them. I won't give the "won't work" cause you never know but odds aren't in your favor.. lol

Either tank will be fine for a while.. 220g will be fine for life..

Im thinking I might, I have a lot of thoughts, the height seems to be a good match for this mix.....

Thanks on the fish, he's a beauty, and I'm gonna give it a go, if he becomes a mass murderer, I can always move him to another MFK'er....

I just want to do him justice and not have him be a hider, that will punch his ticket out of town, but the bright side is, Im trying something new, and IF it was not to work, Ill have a 150 to fill.....

:D

Thanks Folks~

They top out at 18 inches because they aren't being kept in nearly enough water.
