i just got my first dovii and the pet shop has some umbees too. do u think theyed be okay if raised together from 1"? everyone talks about how mean they are and which is baddest but not much on keeping them together.

I wouldn't suggest keeping them together unless you get a huge tank. Dovii's are EXTREMELY territorial, and Umbees can be just as bad.

yeah i know but i was hoping if they were raised together from 1" and weren't both males they might get along. im building a 250gl but i plan to put my JD, 2jags, oscar, and possibly my coal grunter in it. but i need to buy about 100 gal tank now for my fish before my ply build is done so the dovii will probly go in it when the ply is done. unfortunately ill have to sell everything in a year or two when i move back to the US. so the dovii should be okay in something like a 4x2x2 till then.

well i got an umbee tonight, its just under an inch and the dovii is just over. i think the dovii grew 1/4" in 2 days lol. when i put the bag in the dovii was trying to bite it through the bag but as soon as i let it out the umbee chased down the bigger dovii and started atacking it lol and the dovii backed down. now they seem to be ok.

Yeah just because it is a Dovii, doesn't mean that the Dovii will be the meanest, and visa versa, although as they grow that could change also...

Well good luck keeping them together. I hope it works for you. Sadly, my female umbee won't let anything go in her tank including my poor fingers.

well just to update this incase anyone else wants to do this in future, the umbee lasted 3 days.... :( i also bought 5 two inch algae eater sucker fish (not plecos) put them in around 8pm, by morning all 5 were shredded by the 1.5" dovii... hes now just over 2" so thats an inch in 2 weeks :WHOA:

I would keep the Dovii in the 100g until you move, as you have seen Dovii grow really fast, and a 4' x 2' footprint will get cramped in a hurry.

Well too bad it didn't work out but I think your going to have to keep him alone.
