whats the point? Dovii's will do well on all the usual predatory cichlid foods so why feed frogs? Apart from you getting some sort of kick out of it , it's cruel and unnecessary:irked:

Nothing wrong with changing it up a little. Variety in a fishes diet is just as important as a staple pellet. A frog every other week is not going to hurt his fish, infact I think his fish will enjoy it... mine seem to.

I'm sure you could survive on fish pellets too... but would you want to?

Don't give him a fire belly frog i hear they are poisones to all other critters but a bull frog should do nicely.

OY! Gimme a break, I've used frogs to catch bass here in the great state of New York, so is that cruel?? dovii get about the same size and from what I have gathered they're a predatory fish with many of the same instinctive habits

Feed it a bucket full and video it...I wanna see!!!:headbang2

i'm not saying just feed your dovii pellets 'cause thats no good for any fish and i know they eat things like frogs in the wild, but these fish are not in the wild. You can have plenty of variety in their diet by using various frozen fishes, crustaceans, worms and including pellets occasionly.I'm not telling you what to do just saying i find it cruel,if you can't take critisism then keep quiet

I didn't start this thread Einstein

And its not cruel. It's nature

Ribbit, Splash...GULP :grinno:

If they are those little african clawed frogs yer fish will spit them out. Something in the skin. They are an invasive species here , some places are thick with them . Even LMBs wont eat them.

COOL someone else has heard about the waaambulance. VERY FUNNY!!!:headbang2

I actually wish I could feed my SA/CA cichlids a more natural diet, but I guess the cichlid foods out there will actually provide more nitrition for them..right?? And it IS kinda hard to find "Food" from the amazon in upstate NY anyway I suppose

I throw all kinds of stuff in there, spiders, crickets, grasshoppers, bees (cut the stinger off tho), worms, slugs, ants, flies...you name it

Of course you can get all the nutrition you need from various frozen foods and pellets, but feeding live foods is completely different. I think it brings out the natural predator in the fish. I love watching my O's back down large crayfish into a corner, and inhale nightcrawlers. Its more than just food for them, its a hunt... (sometimes).

Oh and there is no criticism here, just your opinion, and this is just mine.

And as far as the waaambulance goes... ok, I did chuckle a little bit. :D
