Dovii vs Tilapi Butikoferi

i would say the butti is smarter (atleast comparing mine/ the ones i have seen vs my friends dovii and others ive seen).
i would also say it might have the stronger jaws and a shorter body might have a better thrashing advantage..
However, even equal in length they wouldnt be equal in size as the dovii is tall and long while the butti is just tall. and the Dovii is more agressive as all butti ive seen, mine included can be quite timid.

if they were put into the same tank at the same time i would say the dovii. if in the buttis tank i would say the butti and if dropped into the dovii's tank i would say the dovii again.
so i guess thats 2/3 for the dovii on my vote, but really id think it was whoever hit the other first.

Ive seen my jag with a slender body and a little shorter go against my butti and it put up a great fight but ultimately wouldve lost had i not yanked him back out.

I can't speak to the dovi, but the butti I have in my tank is the smallest inhabitant by far but nearly everyone is scared of him, he is super tough

My bros 7 inch butti beat the crap out of his 12 inch midas, my 12 inch trimac, and his 8 inch tiger mota.

Buttikoferi is a beast! They also get to the same length of a dovii. Dovii is smarter, that's why he'll back down and run away.

Butta's do not get the same length as Dovi's.
Do the research.

I've no experience with dovii at all. But I've kept a butti for a short while, and it was by far the most aggressive fish I've ever seen in person!

They get bigger and I'm pretty sure more than a 14" or even a 14" butti is pretty huge

14 inches? foot and half? my ass...I saw a butti in a pet store thats was 18 inches long!! Anyways both will go on until one will die seen it happen at a LFS.. Dropped a 8 inch butti with a 10 inch dovii the dovii was destroyed every single scale was torn off of the dovii. butti's may look cute and smale in pet stores.. but hell, they can turn a tank to a death machine. TRUST ME..

just depends on the individual fish. Doviis tend to get more nasty as they mature.

on avarage, a dovii.it is simply built for heavy damage.everything from its shape to its mouth and teeth.as aggressive and as powerful as a butti is, an aggressive male dovii would embarrass and shame it IMO...
