I am starting to think about what to do with my Dovii in the future
I'm thinking about puting him in a 240g tank, is there any possibilty in having any tankmates with him? like Midas, Flowerhorn or some Vieja sp. ??
Lol, an adult Dovii will kill pretty much anything, it's best if you keep it alone. Umbriferum are just about as large and aggressive. As awesome as it would be having those two huge cichlids together, they would just fight.
That one have to be one crazy fish to put up with a dovii... Dovii can own anything smaller and they get big! My guess is an umbee would be your best bet, but keep a divider handy just in case.
A decent size buttikoferi maybe... I have kept several in the past and was always amazed how tough and hardy those fish are.
Presently I have a 9" male dovii and 7" buttikoferi in a 240 g (besides a 22" RTC ready to go to larger quarters). While the dovii has always been the larger of the two (I got the buttikoferi at 2" when the dovii was already 6") he never did any damage to the buttikoferi or made lunch out of him. Funny thing is the buttikoferi does not mind dealing out his own punches and standing his ground. Neither fish has shown any damage ever. Even weirder is that at night, when the hostilities stop, both the dovii and the buttikoferi almost rest against the flank of the RTC. Obviously I kept the RTC well-fed or both his co-tenants would have been toast long time ago.
