Hey I am new here, and judging from what you were saying that the Dovii is at Highland Tropical Fish on M-59...........correct? If so you are better off not buying that fish.

Yeah but it may be a hybrid that's why I got rid of it, I paid $75 for that particular fish and traded Highland for another one they had and antoher $50 only because I needed another large male to pair up with a second female I have Now I have two viable pure breeding pairs

Here is a picture of my old 18" male Dovii. The one posted above has same body structure but looks to be from a different region or just in his breeding dress.

a hybrid!!! hahahahah dude come on. you are the shallow hal of fish dude. that is a nice lookin dovii. not a $100 dollar fish in my opinion, but a nice fish none the less. i have seen numerous dovii, and that is not a hybrid. unless you are talking a nicaraguan and costa rican dovii mix wich is still a dovii. just because you have two texas cichlids out of different drainage systems and lakes doesnt mean they are hybid's if you breed 2 from different populations, just that they are not both from the exact same geographical region. dovii would be no different. i would not call that fish a hybrid, if you want any purer than that youre gonna have to go wild dude. i think the flowerhorn craze has put everyone on a hybrid craze as well. until the flowerhorn came about i never heard people freak about hybrids like they do now. that was a nice fish, maybe not what you wanted, but still a nice specimen.

The reason i think it's a hybrid is because the group of guys that I got the fish from breed dovii and motaguense together, I will find another pic and if you look at the mouth structure of the fish it does not look right. They aare known around the detroit area to do this on a regular basis i know one guy very well, stopped at a fish shop where he works and they had a male dovii. I asked him how much, and he said for the crossbreed, I said no for the male dovii you couldn't really tell but it was a cross with a motag.

I think it's a hybrid I cannot be 100% on that claim but it just does not look right to me
