I don't know too much about these guy....how big of a tank is required for one full grown male??? would this tank have to be solely for him??

I have seen videos on youtube of these guys splashing all the water out of the tank and smacking into the glass. Can these guys break the tank??? do they belong in a tank lol I mean like if this thing is that powerful then it should only be in like monster 1000+ gallon tanks right??

They can easily get 20" or larger so I would say you need atleast 250 gallons for a male. I currently have a 14" male that is in a solo pond because he is to violent to share territory with any other fish. IMO they have some the best personailtys of all Cichlids.

yes they need a big tank. They are the nicest cichlids and like to be in comunity tanks with smaller fishes. Especially as a pair. lol! better double check that.

The bigger the tank, the better. 10 thousand gallon would be a cozzy home for 1 fish. I know most keepers dont have it like that. Always the bigger, the better. But at least room for a good thrust for a feeling of comfort. And that's alot.

I'd say a 6x2x2 for one Dovi would be a good home.

i would agree with that but as big as what you can get is always better as for all large cichlids:)

within realistic expectations... with 6x2x2 we're talking about plenty of room to turn around. 9/10 people that keep dovii would reccommend that size. Old school rules say 240 but it really isn't neccasary til a couple years down the road and only if you want to give him alot of room. Only thing better would be to build a pond which isn't applicable for everyone.

why doesnt anybody use the search engine?
LOL, then no one would have nice big post count. :)
It's always nice to see what the current opinion is. Husbandry methods change a lot. I do agree though, this is like a weekly question on here. I say 180 minimum for single male would be fine for at least 3 years or so. You honestly don't see a lot of dovii breaking 16 inches in captivity anyway.
