  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here is my stock: these names i got the source that i bought them. I know names are different from each breeder and / or location.

2 white diamond
2 red ruby
1 line master yellow
1 super red scorpion
1 royal pigeon
1 king cobra
1 emperor red
1 blue diamond
1 snakeskin
1 red ribbon pigeon

something that i see in my fish tank. there is a tiny white living thing in my tank, what is that and is it good or bad????

Looks like you have 5 pigeon blood. So off the bat, you are basically looking at possible pairs out of the 5 and possible pairs out of the non PB.

The wite living thing are probably copepods or planaria

i just keep one type of discus together pics arnt to good and this is not all 13

the only thing I would be concerned with is the size of the gravel. you need to feed small discus 5 or 6 times a day and it going to be hard to clean that substrate. bare bottom is best but I would hate to look at it if it was going to be a show tank. a light layer of fine sand is'nt hard to clean and looks great. your off to a great start.

You're right. I did wc and took out gravel yesterday. I'll put a very thin layer of fine white gravel. Any idea what kind and where have great deal?

"DiscusOnly" can u tell if how much pare's i may have?

1-6 pairs :D

On a serious note. Just grow them out and let them decide what they want to do. If you were hoping to get pairs from this strain, you will. Just focus on getting them big and healthy first.

The problem is that you have various strains (lots of) out of these 12. It's generally not a good idea to mix PB with non PB. If 6 of the 12 were PB, you eliminated a lot of the possible combo already.

I am not at that stage yet, but 2-3 pairs is good enough for me (down the road though) just hope they don't mix PB with non PB. out of these 12, which are PB and none PB? so i can keep eye on them. Thank you,

Question: Just today my wife and i notice my discus change their color. I meant their colors get brighter and darker. Does it mean anything and good or bad???

Thank you,
MKD

Out of 6 discus, i got one pair.

in theory, u could get two.

your BD is recessive so it doesnt matter what it breeds with in ur tank, bc its genes wont be expressed in its children. (unless its another BD, then all will be 100% BD).

PB are dominant, so all the children will have PB expressed. (that is if ur PB's parents are both PB's: PP. but if it were cross PBxBD [Pp], then if it were to breed with the BD, 1/4 BD, 3/4 PB).

id say keep the strains to themselves. PB's breeding with any of the other strain mostly creates peppered fry, and the peppering often makes the fish look unattractive- meaning not many will want ur fry/pay high price for it.

also looking at the number of stress bars helps. (note that PB's dont have stress bars bc theyre a mutated strain). I breed leopard-snakeskins. They have 14 bars. all my fry have 14 bars, so there's a great chance that the fry will highly resemble the parents.
I think the wild types mostly have 9 bars.

-just let your discus pair by themselves.

-change of colors is normal. my discus 'know" me. they turn bright and approach the front and swim happily when im there.
But when a stranger comes by, (my gf), the discus will turn dark, show stress bars, and hide. the different colors show their moods.
they will also show more colors when its time to choose mates.
they will turn darker when their fry hatch and attach to them.

if ur discus hide forever in the corner and turn almost jet black, then you have serious a problem.

also at the 6-8 month you'll see dramatic changes in patterns start to finalize/appear in ur discus as they go from juvies to pre-adults? haha
