Thats too bad, I was afraid the sterlets would get too big for my tank. sounds like I need to get a bigger tank... :)

Can i put an ornate bircher in with cichlids? I am sorry I am so ignorant when it comes to all of this.

Everyone here is so helpful and knowledgeable, I appreciate it.

A bigger tank and you could have an arowana, rays, etc. But it depends on how deep your pockets are and how much room you have to work with.

Bichir I wouldn't put with really aggressive cichlids. Some CA/SA cichlids are aggressive. Some are not. I'm unsure if a bichir or alot of bichirs would work with african lake cichlids other than frontosa.

Sounds like you like bichirs. You should just make it a bichir tank. :) They should be ok in a high traffic area. Then put some mid water swimmer to fill up room.

I SAY make a central american cichlid setup with a DOVI which is large... and is the king of cichlids... you could also try my fav the jaguar cichlid!! i have 2 and they are very curious when it comes to new people....
jaguars are true monsters though... a 150 will be fine for life for a jaguar pair or one dovi :):)

edit: my avatar is a juvi jaguar.. they become really stunning at 10 inches

hmmm... I really like the look of those jag cichlids. Are they as aggressive as the DOVI. I would be too afraid the DOVI would eat anything else in my tank.

Thanks so much for the information on the arowana. I have always loved those, but it seems my tank would be too small from what has been posted here. I certainly do not want an unhappy fish. :(

I do like the bircher for some reason, would the jag cichlid go after them?

Again, thanks so much everyone, this has been immensely helpful to me.

I really think that a group of clown loaches would look great in there. I am not sure if you could put them with bichirs, but I would believe so. Someone might correct me on that. Then I would suggest just having one large SA cichlid like an oscar, Jack Dempsey, Jaguar, etc. to go along with all the bottom fish. That would probably turn out to be a pretty active tank.

I agree, a tank full of these will be stunning and unique. Then maybe you could buy some hujeta gars as top swimmers and maybe some peaceful cichlids as mid swimmers. Like severums or electric blue jack dempseys.

Yep put some decent size endli cong, endli endli, etc and that tank would be off the hook for a dr's office. Don't get me wrong these will still get big but with their flexible bodies and they're slower growth rates at larger sizes I'd think you'd be ok.

Plus you can ID which are which when people start talking about them and blow them away with your awesome fish knowledge.

Oh and no a jag wouldn't work with bichir's. IMO they're close to the same as P. Dovii. They can work with other large fish but I think you would even need larger than a 150g to make that work long term. A 15" male Jag can be beligerant. If you got a Jag it would be a solo fish in that tank.

whatever you do get fish that dont make a huge mess or make sure you hire a cleaning company. Every office I have been in the tank looks like crap

Wow, sounds great. I think that would be a great set-up. hujeta gars seem real nice. Great idea. Seems I have some work to do. I'll have to come up with best for mid water swimmers. the Electric blue are beautiful.

Thanks again everyone.

Oh, would clown loaches get along with bichirs?

Depends on the species of bichirs you plan to get. If you plan to get 3-4 inch sized clown loaches, stick to senegals and delhezis.
