I use a 1.5" hose to drain my 300 gallon, it drains it down in minutes! It helps that I have about 8' of drop.

I have a 5 foot drop... I think I could drain faster if I had a slick hose like that because I imagine that the ribbed inside would slow it a little, but for now I am content...

I am actually getting rid of the sump because, no matter what, I can not get it exactly how I want it... I am going to make this a closed system (as in, no sump, but only canisters and my HOB).

My main hindrances with the constant water change system are drilling the holes in the wall for draining.

Yes, I have over 15 gallons in the sump at any time. I run the pump until it sucks air and then I shut it off, effectively removing that 10-12 gallons of water.

How long does it take to refill your tank to the level of the overflow?

About 15 minutes with the python... We have nice water pressure.
