Drain The Tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You have a 55g tank with a 12" oscar and 5 other cichlids in it. No mention of the size of these other cichlids though. You are running filtration that you throw away the beneficial bacteria(BB) with filter cartridge/bag when you change it. IMO the surface area of the tank cannot house enough (BB) for the bioload of the tank so you have free floating bacteria this the cloudiness you see.

Your water params look good as a result of all the recent water changes you've done so ya can't base anything of that. I would go ahead with cleaning of the tank as you are doing and also either upgrade the filtration or add some media to the whisper filters. Media that the BB can colonize which will not be thrown away during cleanings.

So how big are the blood parrots and 3 other cichlids?

Now its just a 55 with an Oscar and 3 other Cichlids in it.
So hopefully nothing else goes wrong then. Seems like everything is starting to go back to normal

There's no such thing as "cycled water" only a cycled filter.
You are wiser than most here. I can see that you are going to fit in well on this site. We need more people like you.

...And you can spell and use punctuation too.:thumbsup:

:nilly: More dead fish is normal? :shakehead Everyone here is willing to give you advise, but it seems you aren't willing to take it. :(

lol, I meant the water parameters. And as for the advise... what??? I took everyone's advice. I did the water changes, I tested the water, I'm doing everything that I can to get the tank back to a healthy state. Obvisouly it is not my tank and not my fish, so I can only do so much, but if you would like to head over this way and bark at my mother, be my guest, lol.

I'm sorry, I confused you with a poster of another thread. Too many oscars in 55's. :(

lol, no problem. Yea, I wish I could find a larger tank for her, but I haven't had any luck, nor do I have the money.
She thinks he's just fine in the 55-Gallon, so having her to upgrade to a larger tank isn't going to happen anytime soon, lol.
