The aro I've been wanting forever.... that's a shame it's only a year... I didn't go to the stingrays and aro forum be cause I wanted to ask in general first.... but if I can't get enough info I'll narrow my posts down....

I asked for an arapaima and a stingray in another forum. Same case as yours, that is if I can house them temporarily. People enlightened me that there is no sense in keeping fish for a couple of months specially for the arapaima (it grows extremely fast). However, I have a 250 gallon with an 84"x32" footprint so the stingray is deemed acceptable. The arapaima, I dropped it. I was also told that the arowana can turn a third of its entire length after I have replaced my older 125 gallon with an 18" footprint. It's up to you. Made me cringe every time I see my 24" arowana do an 18" curve. However, I too, am temporary here so after my work contract I will be selling all my fish and continue fish keeping back home. Things can change in the future anyway.
