Boil it, if it's too large use a bath with the hottest water you can find, the longer you soak it the more it will leach, boiling water should kill off anything lurking in it but if it's a real big piece it could take a long time

yes boil it for sure. if you can. otherwise.... maybe soak it in water mixed with malefix and pimafix. To help kill of bacteria safely.

i dont know that putting wood in your oven is a wise idea. :nilly:

Yes bake it as well.....30 mins @ 550 degrees. Depending on the size of the wood...boil the hell out of it.

Thats what I do. My clown loaches fall over themselves trying to get into all the crevices and they love getting the snails and bugs out. BTW our river we get it out of is very clean, I wouldn't do it otherwise.

I agree hot water is more than enough and like you said adding some type anti bacteria/disease stuff and letting it soak is enough.

I have used lots driftwood from local area and putting it in oven is dangerous - not needed and large pieces don't fit anyway but again dangerous over kill to use oven when hot water is more than enough.

Yes true if water isn't clean than no amount of boiling is going to remove oil, etc. Water here is very clean but has leeches, etc a good dip in hot water IMO kills everything
