Well i just recently purchased two big driftwood for my shrimp tank. I soaked it for only two days and put it in my tank. I noticed that my tank was getting yellow and was worried that it might kill my shrimp. I was wondering if the tannins(the thing that makes the water yellow) will kill my shrimp? They are cherry red shrimp by the way

Normally it is no problem. What you see is the natural tannins from the wood and the water looks that way in some locations where some tropical fish are found. Some people like the look but I never much cared for it myself which is why it is a good thing that over time the tannins will go away with water changes.

No, it is actually very good for them. Just leeching tannin. will be that way for a while.

+1

its nothing to worry about

I hope its shrimp safe though! Because im getting $40 worth of cherry red shrimp in this week :)

Some things you guys you need to know:

-It is malaysian driftwood
-I bought it dry

I found (aside from water changes) that using carbon helped clear the water a bit when I had a new piece of driftwood in my tank.

the shrimp will be fine and yes carbon can help clear things up along with WCs
