i've never had problems with any of my driftwood... the first peice i had, i planned on soaking it, then decided to boil it for faster results, i have been boiling them ever since and never had a problem with discolored water, carbon helps alot too!

I Got some sweet big pieces of Driftwood from local waters. Do I need to do anything to them before I put them in the tank?

Being for local waters it is a good idea to boil them and if you can do that bleach it, because you dont want to introduce anything into your tank from the local water. You never know what it might have. If you bleach it make sure you soak and rinse a TON.

i boiled and soaked my wood for two weeks. boiled in mainly on the weekends so i could keep an eye on it, everytime i changed the water it looked like really really strong coffee, not tea. it's in a tank now but i think i should of boiled it a few more times. i think from memory it boiled maybe 20 times.
