Thanks oddball that's good to know...
Would you know if the sap would cause any problems?.... either way the tree is coming down so I might just prep the pieces I want and let em dry out naturally and hold onto them until next summer

The sap is a big problem. It contains sugars that feed the tree and is the main problem in causing havoc with filters. The sap, depending on species, also will contain substances the tree uses to combat against disease, parasites, and feeding insects. Some tree species sap contains toxins for the tree's protection and these toxins can cause anything from irritation to death in the confines of an aquarium system.

Thanks for the info and link.. I knew the sap was the main issue and it is my main concern.. the tree is a caller you pear.. I'm gonna go check out that link... thanks again.

If you mean the Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana) then, this species is one that contains cyanide of a type called cyanogenic glycoside. This is a form of cyanide combined with fruit sugars. Digesting this substance releases hydrogen cyanide gas. In sufficient quantity, cyanide kills by prohibiting cells from processing oxygen.

Lol.. yes.. stupid auto correct on my phone...well thank you greatly... I definitely do not want that in my tank....

Do not put live wood in your tank,,,,,, go to the beach find some drift wood, boil it for 24 hours and clean it,, and you are good to go,, i have 6 large pieces of beach wood in my 700 litre tank and 4 bits in my 300 litre tank and its fine,
