drift wood questions

try manzanita.com. they have pics of thier stumps with prices. thier shipping is reasonable. I got my stumps and branches from them and soaked them in a trash can for a few weeks until they sunk. no boiling. just rinsed and added to my tank. manzanita is a super hard wood and will last for a long, long time.

there pieces are no where near as large as i want.. and I understood what was said about boiling I just want to know the best known technique. the only reason I wanted to boil was to kill any life in or on the wood! im not concerned so much about the saturating it to sink it. im in the proses of riding my tank of snails and copper.. i dont want any more surprises from adding things.

haha! nice! now i just need a hot tub!.. here is my idea.. a long narrow steel stock tank up on blocks over my fire pit for a short boil. them ill run a block heater pump in the tank after that for 8 weeks or so. i just hope i can still find a block heater. they used to use them in the winter spliced into a colant hoe on a car to pre heat the engine for starting in the cold.. i cant think of any other heat producing pumps that are low watt for sake of keeping the power bill sane.

Find another solution. A stainless steel tank will run you more $ than an aquarium of equal size. The readily available stock tanks are galvanized. Soaking driftwood in a heated galvanized tank will most likely lead to zinc poisoning of any tank you place the treated wood into.
