Drift Wood

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also most drift wood will turn water yellowish. Not harmful to the fish and not permanet. If youu soak it first, not only will it help it sink but you'll get rid of most of the crap that turns ur tank yellow. I soak mine for about 5-7 days.

Where do ppl get large pieces of drift wood? All the LFS has a bin or 2 full of smaller pieces. I am getting a 150 gallon tank soon, and I want one large piece a drift wood. Where can I find it?

I see all kinds of pics of your tanks with beautifull driftwood in them. I got a piece today and put it. How do you make it sink? Will it sink on its own or do I have to anchor it? This is a very stupid question I know!

Did you get it from a LFS?

Pack a lunch, the DW / DGF, get a map and go for a drive in the country some weekend.

Find small clear rivers or streams, lakes with canoe rentals and look for submerged wood.

You will appreciate the centerpiece better and have a great story to tell about it too.

hmmmm, i'm not to far from the Delaware River

I read the article in the above post. It says if the piece is 2 big to boil to scrub? I gotta think that wont get rid of everything that is harmful? Is it better to let it dry out (killing everything out) then doing a good scrub, and soak?

If the piece is waterlogged when you get it, by no means let it dry out! If it dries, it won't sink, and you'll have a floater! :D I've always just pressure washed new pieces. Real easy.

I just found mine in my backyard... I live near the river. I washed it off good and put it in the tank and ya it turned it yellow. Its ok though no fish in it yet. Im just gonna do a few water changes after it sinks. Everything has to be ready by next thursday though. (see signature) It's half waterlogged now it'll be ready by then.
