Do you know what type of wood it is, some is harmful in aquariums.
I soak mine then take a blow torch to it then soak it again.
My swordtails eat all the white growth that comes up.

I have no idea, I live in Florida if that helps at all, lol

After decontamination you can do a test soak with some cheap fish to see if the wood is harmful. Like the canary in the coal mine.

I agree with the others, boil, bleach, salt water whatever you can do. The possibility that there unseen vectors is real, leech eggs, argils, all kinds of aquatic vectors including viruses and bacteria could wipe out a tank.

I don’t want to lose any color, did you notice a color change? If not then bleach would be the way to go
