I need some help is there a way to take the tannese of the drift wood from never coming back or will it always be there and will have to deal with it and do water changes.
Thanks
i've asked this before, zero answers. bumping the thread for some solid information.
i know you can boil it and i guess that helps, but i have no idea as to what you would boil a huge piece in so that may or may not work for you
ive also asked this and was just told to wait it out. i leeched mine for a month changing the water every day and my water is still colored. but from what i understand the fish like tannins so it isnt going to hurt anything. you can also bake it i heard but idk how well that will work. my 55 has been set up for months and is still the same tea color as before. its annoying but it makes the tank look very natural.
It's tannins, not tannese, and it just takes time for them to dissapate from the wood. Just keep doing water changes. You can never tell how long it will take, it just depends on the piece you have.
Boiling MAY help, but the simple fact is wood leaches tannins. Wood will always leach tannins. Individual pieces may start leaching ever smaller amounts, but unless the wood is very old you are going to be getting some leaching.
Best way to remove is boiling. Apart from that just have to wait. Whats wrong with Tannins in your tank, is it the colour? Activated carbon will help remove the brown colour if thats the problem.
