Try fishing line light line and some hice size bell sinker tied tight to wood.

did you just throw this in or did you clean the wood? is soaking the wood wnough cleaning for the wood before it goes in the tank?

Recommend boiling it (washing machine Hot wash/Hot Rinse )

Try some Malaysian drift wood. It sinks instantly and is real cheap.

As others have said you can boil it, or tie it down to a piece of slate or a rubbermaid lid covered under the substrate.
