I've been prepping my driftwood to be put in my tanks for a while now. I boiled it for days. Power washed it, let it soak in buckets, you name it.
On Tuesday night, I threw it in the tank as it looked good to me, and this morning, it looked like there was white mold growing on it. Now my Alligator Gar looks like he has Ich, but my other 2 fish, (red wolf, and TSN), are not effected.
Any ideas on what happened and how I can fix this?

ive collected my own wood and this happened, not sure why...maybe wrong type of wood or not old enough, maybe it still has sap? curious as to if anyone has a definitive answer?

Mine seemed to be all dead and dry. I was treating it for a whole week before it went into the tank.
Just sucks because I dont know what my fish have, and what I need to treat them so they dont die.

mine seemed dry and dead too, where did you get it? some trees can be harmful, esp if there is still sap in the middle. pretty safe with fruit trees iirc.

I don't think you fish got ich from the driftwood, the white thing possible is fungus.
Note: Ich is present in every aquarium, when your fish got stressed then their immune system got weaken and easier to catch ich.

It is natural for the DW to get the white mold when first put into the aquarium. It will go away in time.
Also with older wood too.I had a few pieces that I had bought years ago and that white stuff seemed to appear one day.I did all the things that the poster did to his newly purchased wood and the stuff still cane back after I placed it back in the tank.....I'm not sure what is going on with your gar but the stuff is said to be harmless and other than aesthetics I have never had a problem with it.

Yeah,I don't use the wood anymore because I just don't like the looks of the stuff.I don't have much experience with gars, treating them or otherwise so I won't speak much on that.Perhaps someone else will chime in with advice.
