since it was already in a tank there is a 100% chance of fungus.. i have never not had a piece fungus up a bit after being in a tank and then left to dry then put in a tank again..

however fungus is white, fuzzy and easy to rub off..

if you need a wire brush to get the stuff off my guess is that its some strand of fresh water barnacle... as to what kind i have no idea.. other than knowing that they exist i dont know much else about them..

After scraping a few off with a dental pick, they definetly are not fuzzy, but seem to have some type of "shell". They're so small (and me without my microscope). I can't actually put them into a tub or pot of boiling water, but can pour boiling water over them, or soak them in the bath tub in scalding hot water. They're too big for any pots.
If it's a barnacle, sea lice or lichen, will scalding hot water kill it? I guess then I'd just be left with the shell. I soaked them for two weeks in scalding water, so that may be where I am at now. Not harmful, just annoying to look at. I guess that's okay, they were very cheap, large pieces of Mopani wood.
