driftwood slime???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have the same wood and got the same thing. the slime on mine showed up in 24 hours and covered the whole thing. it looked like a ghost.
I also picked up a small pack of small grapevine reptile pieces and boiled them to death. they were right next to that piece and they have been in there for days. nothing on those pieces.

My big piece is too big to fit in a pan. I did boil one end and the other end. I even let it soak in the sink over night pouring boiling water on it. I dont know what to do.
I pulled mine out and I am letting it dry out. I will start with trying to boil it again.

I had the same problem. I bought a bristlenose pleco and 25 ghost shrimp....2 days later, no more slime.....someone is eating it, not sure which.

lol this is a really old thread... since this i broke down the tank... its now a nano-reef and the driftwood is gonna get sold soon... its a nice piece and went from looking like a ghost to covered in nasty arse algae and back to normal lol...

I get that clear slime that puffcrusader696 is talking about. How are the levels of carbonate in your tank water? My KH is consistently 8-9+, and my pH 7.4-7.5. I wonder if either of these levels have anything to do with it. I have been trying to lower the pH and KH in my tank so that I may have more success keeping Blue Rams, but I wonder if the slime coating could be partially blocking the release of acids from the driftwood because the addition of the wood to the tank hasn't really lowered the pH.
