Driftwood ... water color?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you probably need to scrum it down and soak more....

and 3 days is not enough... I soaked mine for at least 1-2 weeks and there were still some coloration from the driftwood...

From what i recall from my 3ft long driftwood.. it took almost a month for it to clear up....

I only soaked my driftwood in the hottest water I could get in the tub only for about an hour. Needless to say my water is a little yellow, but it is clear :)

It's been in there for 6+ weeks. I used carbon for the first 6 then decided to try Purigen (to compare the 2 and the results). I thought I mentioned that in the thead. Sorry.

Boiling removes tannin a lot faster than just soaking. If it really bothers you I'd boil it again, maybe a couple more times.

I really like the look of bog water though, so I really recommend just getting used to it.

Yup I finally caved in today. Took out all 3 pieces, soaked them in boiling water, 90% water change (took it down to the gravel). Tank looks sparkling new. Hopefully it will stay that way! lol

DONT TRIP BRO...ITS NORMAL...FOR THE FIRST MONTH THE DRIFTWOOD WILL GIVE OFF ALOT OF COLOR. JUST BEEF UP YOUR WATER CHANGES...I HAVE MY DRIFTWOOD FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND STILL GIVES OFF SOME COLOR..VERY LITTLE, ITS KOOL... GOOD LUCK!
