Driftwood, yellow water?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Agreed, don't drain the tank, it won't do a bit of good. I've got large pieces of driftwood that are still leeching tannins after months and months. It temporarily looks better after weekly water changes but then quickly becomes yellow again.

Water changes and lots of time the tannins will slowly dissappear

If you do go the activated carbon in the filter route.....remember to take it out after about 4 weeks cos it starts to leech phosphates back into the tank. I forgot once....ended up with hairy algae everywhere!!

what kind of fish u have in that tank?
for sa cichlids its good that the driftwood turns ur water yellow,,good for the ph,,and its natural.
for ca cichlids depends on wich ones u got,,

cool thanks i have jack dempsey and a convict and pelco
jd s living usealy in a bit harder water, but ive got mine as wel in tanned water
lots of driftwood,,after a while it will dissapear,,
if u dont want it ur water turns yellow,,and ur wood inst so big,,put it in a boilingpan,en cook it with water
els trow boilingwater over the drifwood,,,and the most will dissapear,,,but,,,i still like it when the water turns yellow,,,,and its harmless for most fish,,ofcourse dont put africans in it(tanganjika),,because the cant handle it there eyes can burn out of the low ph(dont know exactly how to explane in english:D)
