Where is the proof that they do not have natural slime coating? All fish have slime coats to protect themselves from pathogens. Perhaps you bought inferior stocks caused by inbreeding? Some fish get diseases easily unlike most species. It just depends on your source, immune system of the fish and how you accommodate them.
