I always find really cool pieces of driftwood when i go to the beach. I was wondering if i can use it in my freshwater tank. I have some cool pieces of pet store driftwood but im thinking maybe this driftwood wont stain the tank as much. But i dont know if the salinity stays in the wood. Thanks for the help

Would probably need to soak it in freshwater with frequent changing of the water, for awhile to leach the salts back out of it. Other then that I cann't say. Never tried it myself.

Boil it in water for at least 15 minutes. Let it dry and then you should be able to toss it in, just watch the salinity.

its kinda too big to boil though its like a branch. Do you guys think if i rinse it off that would work. Its going into a 125 gallon tank so i dont think its gonna change the salinity to significantly has anyone took beach driftwood.

If you can't boil it, you can put it in a bathtub, plug the drain and pour a big pot of boiling water onto it. Put enough hot water on it to cover all of it and let it soak in that for a couple hours. Then I would drain the water and do it again. Then rinse it off after a few more hours in the hot water.

When I collect large pieces I use a 55gallon steel drum to boil the wood. I got the drum for free. I use rock/brick to build a I guess oven around the base and part way up the sides to retain heat. Works like a charms and best of all it was almost free for everything to make it
