Having sold many power tools over my lifetime in retail sales, I can say that yes these things work but...
most drills are not made for the continuous run time that is required to keep the pump running. You will burn through drills a lot faster than if you were to purchase a pump made for the job.
I too was frustrated with the slow python method. I went back to dumping buckets and using the hose for just filling up. I will probably try an in-line water pump of some sort myself.
