Never seen it happen until this video. Thanks for showing us what the consquence is when trying to drill a tempered glass tank.

This should be stickied for the newbies. Educational why people need to know if its tempered or not.

I remember you posting something about drilling a tank a while back.

Sorry that happened to your tank.
I’ve been there before. A couple of times actually.
One I did literally sent glass flying all over the place.

I realized after getting the tank home, there was probably a 50/50 chance it was tempered (especially as new as it looked), even with the iPad/ sun glasses test..
So I put this up as a FYI for anyone buying used tanks.
When I was in the USI bought most tanks in the 80s, so never had a tempered one before.
Below a link to the thread when it was first acquired, and I was warned.
This week in Panama

When I was a kid we had a big snowstorm one winter. Whole neighborhood came out to shovel after day 2. So my genius neighbor pours boiling water on her car windshield to "get the ice off". It did EXACTLY the same thing as that tank. There was a "KSSSSH" sound then the whole windshield went white with cracks. ? Then BOOM, cubes of glass everywhere. They ended up having to tape trash bags to the car to protect it while everyone was snow bound for a few days.

Due to isolation its taken a while to find a replacement pane (no hardware store or anything even close on the island). But finally did, when Gamboa brought over a very old piece of plate glass, so here's another attempt to drill 2 bulkhead holes.

That was fast and looked easy Duane. Great to know you can finish your project.

Bummer. Curious though. If you were to start a drill spot and only cut a little then stop for it to cool off and repeat the process of start stop. Would it be possible to drill all the way through eventually?
