Where is the best deals on the Laguna pumps?

Im pretty sure im just going to set it up with 3 tubes using the back up. I do plan on drilling a small hole in the return to make a siphon break.

thanks for all the input from everyone

Besides where to get a Laguna pump for a great price. What one's do most of your prefer? Can they be run outside of the sup? As im not sure of their loss @ head pressure as much as im familiar with the mag drives.

It's been a while since I was shopping around for one, but prices on Amazon.com and Ebay seemed to be pretty good.

Below is a link to Lagunas product catalog that has flow charts for their Max Flo and Powerjet pumps (they are identical pump motors, the Powerjet just comes with some attachments for a fountain). You'll see that the Lagunas put out much more flow per watt than the Mag drives so you'll save some cash every month on your electric bill. With our pumps running 24/7, the savings of going with a more efficient product can really add up, especially if you plan to have the tank setup for years.

Good luck with your setup!

Thank you for the great info. I assume reliability is good? And are they sump run only or external?

No problem.

From the research I did on a few pond forums and on reefkeeping websites (where I initially heard about them), the reviews have all been very strong. I was worried about reliability too, but out of the box, the pump feels like a quality product; I am happy with mine so far (running strong for 1 year 3 months). There were a few people on pond forums who claimed they have been running theirs for 7+ years with no problems.

There are guys on the reefkeeping sites that run them externally because they are looking to reduce heat transfer into the water, but in my case the extra heat is a benefit so I run mine submerged. Disclaimer: Laguna recommends running them only in submerged applications, but if you run it externally, I have heard that the "click fit" connection is prone to leaking so using a stainless steel hose clamp directly on the discharge is recommended...this fitting is the only bad thing I have to say about the pump...I guess they don't have a threaded discharge that would enable you to plumb directly to PVC so that they can offer you a threaded "Click fit" connection (sold separately of course :irked:)
