Drilling glass-how close is too close.

I think a standpipe would not look nice in an aquarium, plus a hole in the bottom plate - where pressure is higher, is a potential source of stress cracks. An elbow can be hidden by an acrylic strip, and if you want huge flow, use a 2" PVC piping/elbow and rate your pump accordingly. My 2 cents...
 
Have you ever drilled a tank before? I drilled my sump a few week's ago and it's scary, I practised on a old leaking tank and the first time I smashed one side but the second went through ok, then came the sump:nilly: . I just took my time and it went ok thank god. I used this company....Diamond drilling holesaws for cutting Fishtanks Aquariums

I knew CHOMMPERS would be chiming in if there gonna be any glass drilling.:D
I do not think he was aware of the hardware options after drilling the hole.
