Can you do it? Easily? How is it done? Better left to a pro? Who does this kind of thing? I am looking at more used tanks cheap, but they are not drilled, and I am sort of fond of that setup now. I was thinking just two holes in the back towards the top to use a sump. Any ideas?

Egon is a pro at it. He even has the machine.

its very easy check out vids on you tube . I got my glass hole saw from aqua cave, which isn't to far from you , it was around 20 bucks if your scared get a old tank and do practice holes. don't be scared i really is easy.

This is from when I drilled my 135 for a second overflow. My lfs has the press and the owner, my buddy mike, will come and help for $15 per hole. I felt a lot better about him doing it then trying myself!! Lol

It's pretty easy, you just have to be patient. If I had that machine, it would be a snap.

go to http://www.glass-holes.com/Glass-Hole-Cutters_c7.htm and get your self what ever size you want. remember to check hole size vs bulkhead size. you need a 2 3/8 hole fo an inch and a half bulkhead, i think, they have that info on the website.

then use your cordless drill on the lowest torque setting with a flow of water on the glass/holesaw.

it is easy, i even did the end of my 500 with water in it!!

The weight of a cordless drill is plenty of force for drilling a hole in glass. Do not push on the drill or apply any extra force and you will be fine. A constant trickle of water from a garden hose for cooling and slag removal is the only other thing you will need.

Super easy. I practiced on a spare 20g the first time. Buy the cheap eBay drill bits. Use plenty of water. Take your time. Don't apply extra force on the drill. After the first one you'll realize how easy it is.
