Thanks for the link Dr. Joe. Thats actually the one that got me thinking about straws and the possibility of using them in a Fluidized type filter. Hopefully he posts back with another update. I think I will go the easier trickle tower for now.
So far I have about 20 cases cut up, which is about 100,000 pieces or 15 gallons of media. I also have one of the local tackle shops collecting the take off fishing line for me. I guess I was not the first person who asked them for it. They knew what I wanted it for right away. They said they used to have a guy with a Koi farm that collected it from them.
I am thinking now use a 55 gallon drum or possibly two as trickle towers. Use the top of the barrel upside down to make a drip plate and prefilter area, then straws and packed fishing line in the bottom. Gravity feed back to the pond and hide it behind the same wood that I am building the surrounding deck out of. I have two Laguna 3000gph pumps to feed it, one probably from a skimmer and the other from the bottom.
