It depends on your fish.
The majority of fish are ok just being floated, but for some sensitive fish you are just asking for them to die if all you do is float and drop them in. (Assuming your water isn't basically the same as the bag they're coming out of)
Really, none of my fw fish are that sensitive, so I don't drip them, but I did drip some of my SW fish.
