Drip drain

I have had a few standpipes, and when used singularly, they sounded like a toilet constantly running, or gurgling.
Using one of the multi drain configurations (herbie or bean animal) where one is valved and running at full volume, while another (or 2) is (are) taking up the slack is the only way to reduce 90% of the noise.
I have tried capping stand pipes of with a PVC cap resting on a strainer of sorts, and it did reduce the toilet sound slightly about 30-40%.

duanes duanes when you did this was it high flow or low flow? Im expecting flow of like 4gph because it will be just for the auto drip. If low flow I’ll have to figure something else out.

Right now my autodrip is done via two 1/2in drains on the back of tank running at like 2gph and they’re silent. Just never dealt with stand pipes.

With that little flow from a drip you won't hear anything. Do the stand pipe maybe put a strainer on it just in case one of your fish get squirrely. How big a pipe you thinking about?

I could probably get away with 1/2in but was thinking of maybe just doing 1.5in. This way if I decide to drill the tank more in the future I can turn it into a drain for a sump.
