Drip hot/cold or just cold?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So the setup is ridiculously simple. I run a hot line from my washer hookup via an icemaker kit with an adjustable valve to control flow into my top sump (you see two lines in the picture, one is from the cold line just in case I want to do a large water change I can fill faster with the correct temp). The water runs down the drains through the bio towers that have air stones under each one forcing air up through the towers effectively degassing the untreated tap water. In the bottom sump I have a small bulkhead that I drilled out to where I wanted the water level to remain and ran that line to the basement drain. Instant 24/7 water change, stupidly easy and simple.

Wow, awesome! So the hot water is goes through your basic water line?
Hmmm... I might try this and keep my heaters plugged in and set to 70* or so. Just a low emergency number in case I have trouble starting or over time.

I think I'll run a drip on a 5gl bucket to test it in action before making another hole in my drywall lol.
Thanks so much!

More pics of people's natural gas drip would be awesome

That is so awesome. I love your setup

Man it looks so simple! Does your hot water go through a carbon filter/chloramine setup or straight into the tank?

No filters for anything just straight into the tank.

Simplicity is bliss!

I battle chloramine in my water, I might have to get a 2nd filter or connect both lines to my 3 stage chloramine filter and just add a digital temp to the outlet line for ball park water temp.

I don't think it gets cold enough here in OC for the need for hot water mix. Just use cold water and use a long hose to feed it that way it warms up a little by the time it gets to the tank

It gets cold enough to run heaters though right?
Im talking about running a hot/cold drip and keep heaters plugged in as a safety precaution.

ive kept heaters for a backup, but then a friend had some go out and borrowed them and this and that and oh well the drip works perfectly to take care of it all, I mostly adjust it twice a year, once when the water lines get warmer for summer (cold water is not so cold) and for winter when cold water is super cold
