i wanted to set up a drip system on my ray pond.... but am worried about the contaminants in the water what would be the best way to get rid of them... have it drip into a water bottle filled with carbon and then let it drip out from the bottom?
If by contaminants you mean chloramine/chlorine you will probably have to get a filter from http://www.thefilterguys.biz/ Heavy metals would probably have to be removed via an RO unit. A chlorine/chloramine unit can be bought from filter guys and plumbed to the incoming line.
i have an ro unit but i dont want to use it bc i want to keep the ph stable...... ill look into that.... its a 300 gallon stock pond about 200 gallons filled right now and its open... would drip a gallon or 2 n hour ......since its open do you think the chorine would be released into the air at the drip rate?
I wouldn't filter it at a gallon or two per hour, I don't believe it would be enough to cause harm and chlorine would be burned off in 24 hours. I would wait for the people who run them to chime in, however. I have well water and don't need to filter. That said, if you have chloramines as opposed to chlorine the story is different.
thanks hopefully i can get other opinions i just thought if i did 1 gallon an hour that would be 24 gallons throughout the day in the 200 gallon thought it wouldnt cause harm and burn off
Get the filter guys 3 chamber chlorine/chlormine filter as mentioned above... I do 130 gallons a day through it on my 500 with no issues- btw 24 gallons a day is not going to have much impact on that volume... it is not like doing true water change because you are just diluting the nitrates etc.
