Drip System Poll

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
With great risk comes great reward. :D

I bet that is the chapter right after K.I.S.S. in the ray hand book.........

After almost 10 years without a generator I'm sure I must have a great reward coming...... :)

Lol let's hope so. As Austin Powers once said... "I also like to live dangerously..."

Makes sense if you are a risk taker that has a few hundy invested in rays......

IF your illness is deeper set or at an advanced state like some people with months and months of salary invested then some of this advice could be viewed as poor at best...... :(

That was a joke about not having a backup generator. If I had several months salary invested in rays I would for sure have a back up generator though lol.

Again... I simply stated what works for me. My methods may not work for everyone. I am by no means telling people advice be it good or bad. I started this thread to be a information center where people can view how others are running, and see what works and what does not. I hope we can all learn from it.

Anyone else care to share?

Drips seem like a great system, I have never had one so I can't speak from experience. For me setting up a large tank, deciding how to maintain it, Drip seems to be some work setting up and long run cost more expensive then WC with less impressive results. Maybe for others it works well for them for what ever reasons but for a guy with kids and a job, I will be plumbing a drain in the bottom of my tank that goes to a sink drain. This will have a ball valve that I flick and walk away while my tank is draining. It will be very fast as I will have a 1 to 1.5 inch abs under full siphon. Some pex supply pipe fixed to the top of the tank with a mixer to fill tank back up. Probally take me 15 min a day on a 400g tank at 50 percent WC. IMO this beats a drip, but every ones situation is different.

I would like to know if some of the bigger breeders with several large systems are using drips or just doing massive wc's? I understand your logic canna, if I had clean usable tap water I would probably continue to do it that way you described. I started off just doing wc's a few times a week if necessary. However I still needed to make the RO water in advance for the changes. It just got to the point where I figured, I'm running the RO unit almost non stop, mind as well try just run it right into the tank and let it drain off naturally.

I'm back experimenting with using my drip system I'm running two whole house filters with carbon filters dripping 90 gal a day. Some of my concerns is how fast will the carbon last doesn't look like it would last long and if carbon expires does anyone think there are reverse effects. Need to test again but I think my tap is very low on chlorine and chloramines. Also anyone testing for metals

I have always heard carbon is fully exhausted after about 30 days of use. I don't believe there would be an reverse effects that I can think of unless the carbon starts to physically break down by the water, which would take a long time.

Drip systems to me are on a tank to tank basis. I have a system that works great on a drip system. Water is only treated with chlorine so simple carbon blocks take that out. My water has a high ph depending on the time of year and sits at 400-450 for tds. I use to monitor all my parameters but after so many years I just monitor tds and temp once in awhile to know if my flow or temp mixture needs to be adjusted. I couldn`t run my tanks the way I do without it. Largest tank is 2200 gallons and when my large females get pregnant at the same time my fedding can increase by 4x the amount so a drip is the only way to really handle this.
