Drip System with wet/dry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I made a funky U shaped spray bar for my wet/dry filter system out of PVC pipe to get an even spread over the drip tray, it worked great but it was noisy all hell! :(

The air that got sucked in via the stand pipe was being forced out the little holes of the spray bar and it sounded like when you try and squeeze the last bit out of a squeezable sauce bottle - but continuously! :swear:

I ended up removing the spray bar and just left a t section on the end of the pipe so the water dumped onto the drip tray in 2 places instead of one, my drip tray seems to do a pretty good job of evenly distrubuting the water this way so I'm happy. This allowed the trapped air to escape without being forced through a little hole and making a rude noises! :D

By the looks of it your using a different overflow system so you may not have the same problem.

i gunna use a pvc spraybar as well, but im gunna make the holes just alittle bigger than usual as the rio32hf is quite powerful.

i dont think im gunna be be using a return bulkhead, just suctions cups.
I also drilled bigger holes, not loud at all!

Yeah my holes werent that small but my pump is rated 3500l per hr

A bit of overkill on a 450l tank, but hey, the water is clean! :D
Yeah, the Rio 32 HF is rated at 1900/gal at 1 ft and 1300/gal at 6 ft. I have about 5 1/2- 6 ft to the return. My water is also crystal clear. The Rio pump kicks ass! :headbang2

This is the pump I have:

Sun Sun HQB-3900

I got it for AU$40

Great bang for buck pump, highly recommend them for the price if you can get them over there!

It has a head rating of 4metres! I actually have a ball valve on the outlet between the pump and my tank to cut it back a bit, otherwise the tank turns into a whirl pool. I still have to increae the diameter of the return pipe, to slow down the water coming back into the tank, at the moment it has blown a hole through my sand substrate so you can see the bottom of the tank :(

I'll be getting another one for my 680l tank which will be on its way soon :grinyes:
